During the 2002-2003 regular season, the Devils were bouncing back after losing in the Stanley Cup Final to Colorado in 2001 and getting knocked out of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals in the 2002 postseason. Martin Brodeur played in 73 games during the regular season, winning 41 of them. In the postseason, the Devils netminder played in all 17 games leading New Jersey to the Stanley Cup Final.

The Devils faced off against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the Stanley Cup Final for the Cup. After splitting the first six games 3-3, the series landed back in New Jersey for Game 7 to decide who the 2003 Stanley Cup Champions would be. The Devils ended up winning the game 3-0 and the Cup was raised for the second time in New Jersey.
Brodeur's thoughts on winning the Cup for the third time, and second time in front of his home fans:

"With a new cast of players and coaches that year, being able to raise the cup in front of our fans was an incredible feeling."
