Head coach John Hynes joined the team on the ice this morning for their practices and the scrimmage and the players noted the difference in the details and how he likes things to be done. Hynes also met with the media for the first time after serving as an assistant coach with Team USA at the World Cup.

Despite the disappointing result, he noted several positives he can take away from the experience like the 600+ hours of video on some of the best players in the world that he can dissect and use later down the road and the opportunity to see how other coaches and GMs go about their business and approach the game. He's excited for the start of the season with the Devils and, while he has complete confidence in the rest of the coaching staff to run today's sessions, he didn't want to take any time off and miss an opportunity to lay the foundation of expectations for the season.

Today's scrimmage featured Teams B and C with B winning 1-0 off a Mike McLeod penalty shot. In these scrimmages, there are no power plays. If you are called for a penalty, the player you offended gets a penalty shot, but the rest of the players apply the back pressure and can clean up the garbage, which is what happened today when Beau Bennett pounced on the rebound of McLeod's shot.
Steve Santini was part of today's winning team and spoke with the media afterward about how things were going for him in his first NHL training camp and what his expectations are for himself this season.

We also got to know Bennett a little bit better today in his edition of Devils All-Access on Facebook Live. Turns out, he hates mayo and cats, but loves wine and zoos. Hop on over to our Facebook page and check it out!
Tomorrow, we'll be chatting with captain Andy Greene around noon. So, a) send me your questions and b) tune in! I will also have the rosters for the split squad games for you as well as any other fun tid bits I discover after practice.
Finally, Cory Schneider and Kyle Palmieri will have the option to skate on their own on Monday and then will get back into things with the rest of the team on Wednesday.
