Bratt Speak of the Devils

Forward Jesper Bratt is entering an unknown off-season. He will be a restricted free agent, meaning both that he needs to sign a new contract and that the Devils retain his rights.
There is much work to be done on both sides to reach an agreement. But one thing they do both agree on is that both sides want Bratt to be a Devil for a longtime to come.
"I want to be part of the solution. I want to be here," Bratt told the Speak of the Devils podcast. "I know it's a business decision and that's something I have to accept. We'll see where the future goes. I'm going to do everything I can to make myself a better player and become better every day. That's where my focus will be. Hopefully, everything goes smooth."

It's a good time for Bratt to be earning a new contract. He enjoyed a career year in 2021-22, setting new highs in goals (26), assists (47), points (73), power-play points (18) and game-winning goals (6).
"I feel like I did a lot of good things throughout the year and feel like I evolved as a better player than I've been before," Bratt said. "At the same time, I feel I have a higher level. There are still things in the game that I can improve on. That brings excitement to myself that I have a lot of things going into the summer to work on to become better."
Bratt's breakout season has been building for a long time. In reality, his game really started to mature during the 2020-21 campaign.
"I think it started a little bit last year when I started to take my game to the next step," he said. "I felt like I was more comfortable in the system. I felt like I was older. I felt like I knew how the league worked. I feel like this year it came along with it. I felt going into every game that I could make a difference."
And now, the 23-year-old enters an off-season with an eye toward next year.
"I'm someone that always sets a lot of goals and wants to be better," he said. "Even when I had really good games I felt that tomorrow is the next day, because tomorrow I still have to do it again. I still have to be better the next game. I'm going into this off-season with a mindset of helping my team win more games and be better than it was next year.
"I'm not going to sit here and be happy with a season unless I'm holding a Cup. I'm still hungry for a lot more."
