MONTREAL -- The Canadiens dropped a 4-1 decision to the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.

Brendan Gallagher looked to have opened the scoring early in the first, but a Carolina challenge saw the goal was called off for interference on Canes netminder Frederik Andersen.
That kept things scoreless in an opening frame which saw Jake Allen make 10 saves.
Following the break, Carolina took advantage of a power play to open the scoring 0:23 into the second period.
Sebastian Aho completed a play from Teuvo Teravainen to beat Allen and make it 1-0 for the visitors.
Rod Brind'Amour's squad doubled their lead just 1:49 later as Andrei Svechnikov scored his fourth of the season.
But the Canadiens would get one back on the power play with less than three minutes to go in the middle frame.
Tyler Toffoli put Nick Suzuki's pass past Andersen to score his first of the season and make it 2-1. Jonathan Drouin likewise earned an assist on the play that would round out the scoring in the second.
