Affleck grew up in Penticton, British Columbia, where he played junior hockey. He then went on to the University of Denver to play college hockey for two years before he was drafted 21st overall in the NHL Draft by the California Golden Seals. He was traded in his first year to St. Louis and played four-and-a-half years with the Blues.
Following his hockey career, Affleck joined the Blues' front office as a sales manager while also doing color analysis alongside NHL Hall of Fame broadcaster Dan Kelly on KMOX. From 1987 to the current day, Affleck has served the Blues organization in several capacities, including vice president of sales, vice president of broadcasting, CEO of business operations, and currently, director of alumni.
Affleck started the St. Louis Blues Alumni back in 1988 and has played an instrumental role in establishing its strong and active presence in the St. Louis community. Thanks to his dedication and the commitment of the Alumni, the St. Louis Blues organization, the St. Louis Blues Alumni has contributed millions to the St. Louis community and beyond.
Ever a champion for the St. Louis hockey community, Affleck also helped start the St. Louis Amateur Hockey Hall of Fame, which began honoring those who support and promote amateur hockey throughout the St. Louis region in 2008. He also was chairman of the March of Dimes Celebrity Golf Classic for 10 years which raised over one million in the fight against birth defects.
The Jack Buck award was established in 1987 to annually honor an individual in recognition of dedicated support of sports in St. Louis and for making a positive difference in the community. Over the years, Ozzie Smith, Stan Musial, Kelly Chase, and Tom Stillman are among the distinguished award recipients.
Other award recipients who will be honored on Dec. 7 include Nolan Arenado (Sports Personality of the Year), Dick Vermeil (Bob Plager Legends Award), Yuri Collins (Carl O. Bauer Award), and Mike Claiborne (Burnes/Broeg Award).
