The Chicago Blackhawks and WGN Radio announced today that they have agreed on a multi-year broadcast rightsholder extension. In addition, Steve Konroyd will take over the role of radio analyst for the late Troy Murray, alongside play-by-play commentator, John Wiedeman. The agreement includes a multi-year extension for live game coverage with pregame, intermission and postgame shows led by Charlie Roumeliotis. WGN will broadcast the preseason games on Sept. 21, 24 and 26 and all 84 regular-season games this season.

WGN Radio has been the flagship station for the Blackhawks since the start of the 2008-09 campaign, a partnership that united two historic Chicago institutions. WGN Radio broadcasts can be heard in 38 states and Canada, as well as streamed worldwide on wgnradio.com, the WGN Radio and Chicago Blackhawks apps, smart speakers, Apple Car Play, Android Auto, TuneIn and iHeartRadio.

KONROYD ASSUMES ANALYST ROLE IN THE BOOTH WITH WIEDEMAN
Steve Konroyd returns to the Blackhawks broadcast team after spending parts of the 2025-26 season as the color analyst for WGN Radio. Prior to last season, Konroyd served as a TV studio analyst and part-time TV color analyst for the Blackhawks from 2005-21.
Before rejoining Chicago’s broadcast, he worked as a studio analyst for NHL Network and for Notre Dame Hockey. In 1996, Konroyd became the first ever radio color analyst for the Phoenix Coyotes before becoming the TV analyst for the San Jose Sharks from 1997-2000. He also went on to serve as the TV color analyst for the Columbus Blue Jackets for four seasons before leaving for Chicago. Konroyd won Emmys for his broadcast work in both San Jose and Columbus.
Konroyd spent four of his 15 NHL seasons with the Blackhawks from 1988-92, posting 57 points (10G, 47A) in 251 games. The Scarborough, Ontario native currently lives in Chicago with his wife, Juli. Konroyd and his wife have five children, Danielle, Emily, Declan, Braelyn and Stephen.
John Wiedeman enters his 20th season as the radio voice of the team and has won Illinois Sportscaster of the Year by the IBA. Wiedeman also has NHL broadcasting experience with the New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Columbus Blue Jackets.
Charlie Roumeliotis also returns to the radio booth for a third season as the host of Chicago Blackhawks pregame, intermission and postgame shows for the upcoming 2026-27 season. Prior to working with WGN Radio, he worked as Blackhawks Insider for NBC Sports Chicago, where he delivered exclusive coverage of the team through articles, video content, podcast analysis, and TV appearances from 2019 through 2024.
