It wasn't on purpose, but the Colorado Avalanche's 2019 NHL Draft class had a Canadian West Coast feel to it.

The Vancouver Canucks were the hosts for this year's summer selection, but the Avs might have been the next popular team at Rogers Arena as five of their eight new prospects have ties to the Vancouver area and British Columbia.

The cheers started early for the Avalanche's picks on the first night of the draft on Friday and were a constant throughout the weekend.

VANCOUVER--The Colorado Avalanche used the No. 202 overall selection in the seventh round, its final pick at Saturday's 2019 NHL Draft, on goaltender Trent Miner.

Miner, 18, spent the 2018-19 season with the Vancouver Giants in the Western Hockey League. He had a 24-5-1-1 record, three shutouts, 1.98 goals-against average and .924 save percentage in 32 contests during the regular season and a 2.73 goals-against average and .885 save percentage in six postseason games.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--The Colorado Avalanche used the 171st overall selection in the sixth round of the 2019 NHL Draft on center Luka Burzan.

From Surrey, British Columbia, Burzan has spent the last three seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Brandon Wheat Kings and Moose Jaw Warriors.

Burzan, who is 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, had 78 points (40 goals, 38 assists) in 68 games for Brandon in 2018-19. He joined the Wheat Kings in 2017-18 after beginning the year with Moose Jaw.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--The Colorado Avalanche chose forward Sasha Mutala with the No. 140 overall pick in the fifth round of the 2019 NHL Draft on Saturday at Rogers Arena.

Mutala, 18, recorded 41 points (20 goals, 21 assists) in 65 games with the Tri-City Americans in the Western Hockey League in 2018-19 and added one assist in five playoff contests.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--Forward Alex Beaucage was picked by the Colorado Avalanche at No. 78 overall in the third round of the 2019 NHL Draft.

Beaucage, 17, helped the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies win a Memorial Cup championship and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League title during the 2018-19 season. The wing recorded 39 goals and 40 assists in 68 QMJHL regular season games before producing 16 points (five goals and 11 assists) in 16 postseason contests.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--The Colorado Avalanche selected forward Matthew Stienburg with the 63rd overall pick in the third round of the 2018 NHL Draft on Saturday at Rogers Arena.

Stienburg, 18, has spent the last two seasons at St. Andrew's College and recorded 75 points (33 goals, 42 assists) in 56 contests while serving as the team's captain in 2018-19.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--The Avalanche chose defenseman Drew Helleson with the No. 47 overall pick in the second round of the 2019 NHL Draft on Saturday at Rogers Arena.

Helleson, 18, has played the past two years for the U.S. National Team Development Program. The blueliner recorded 23 points (five goals, 18 assists) in 64 total games in 2018-19 and won a bronze medal with Team USA at the 2019 IIHF U18 World Championship. The 6-foot-3, 194-pounder had three assists in seven games at the under-18 worlds.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club selected forward Alex Newhook with the 16th overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NHL Draft tonight at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.

Newhook, 18, has spent the last two seasons with the Victoria Grizzlies of the British Columbia Hockey League, where he's produced 168 points (60g/108a) in 98 career regular-season games and 33 points (14g/19a) in 27 total postseason contests.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club selected defenseman Bowen Byram with the fourth overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NHL Draft tonight at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.

Byram, 18, spent the 2018-19 season with the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League, where he recorded 71 points (26g/45a) in 67 regular-season games. The Cranbrook, British Columbia, native led all WHL defensemen in goals and ranked third in points, earning WHL (West) First All-Star Team honors. He added 26 points (8g/18a) in 22 playoff games, leading all skaters in assists and points and becoming the first defenseman to ever lead the WHL in postseason scoring. Byram has accumulated 98 points (32g/66a) in 138 career WHL contests, all with Vancouver, and has totaled 33 points (11g/22a) in 29 playoff outings.
