Saturday Shutout

Scott Wedgewood recorded an 18-save shutout while Martin Necas' and Nathan MacKinnon each scored a goal to help the Avalanche defeat the Dallas Stars 2-0 at American Airlines Center on Saturday. A huge part of the Colorado's win was its penalty-kill unit that went 2/2 against Dallas' second-ranked power play that entered Saturday converting at a 29.1% rate.

Additionally, Brent Burns became the second player in NHL history to play in 1,000 consecutive games while Devon Toews recorded the 300th point of his career.

With the win, the Avalanche became the first team to reach 50 wins and improved to 50-15-10.

"Coming into this game, we knew it was a big one," Necas said. "I felt like we played really good defensively. Didn't give up much. PK (penalty kill) was great. [Wedgewood] was unreal. We're always going to create something. It wasn't our best offensively, today. But we got it done."

How It Happened

Necas opened the scoring at 10:39 of the third period with his 36th goal of the season via a shot from the right doorstep set up by Artturi Lehkonen's fantastic feed. With the secondary assist on the goal, Toews picked up the 300th point of his NHL career.

Colorado doubled its lead when at 19:02 of the third period when MacKinnon scored his 51st goal of the season via an empty-net tally.
