SEA

The Colorado Avalanche dropped a 3-2 result in overtime to the Seattle Kraken on Sunday evening as the Avalanche hosted Pride Night and opened up a four-game homestand. Colorado is now 34-21-6 for their season record and rank third in the Central Division standings.

For the Avalanche, Nathan MacKinnon, Denis Malgin scored. In net, Alexandar Georgiev turned aside 32 of the 35 shots he faced. Valeri Nichushkin returned to the lineup after being sidelined for one game due to illness. The Avalanche utilized a lineup of 12 forwards and six defensemen.
For the Kraken, Yanni Gourde scored the overtime winner, while Alex Wennberg and Brandon Tanev scored in regulation. Jaden Schwartz handed out two assists. Former Avalanche netminder Philipp Grubauer made 21 saves on 23 shots.


GAME SUMMARY:

First Period:
9:19 - COL 1, SEA 0 - Artturi Lehkonen dug the puck loose from inside the right faceoff circle . MacKinnon then grabbed the puck and skated into the slot where he fired a low wrister past Grubauer's glove side to give the Avalanche a 1-0 lead. Nichushkin picked up the secondary assist.

Second Period:
9:52 - SEA 1, COL 1 - Jaden Schwartz won a battle along the boards and then sent the puck out to the point to Will Borgen. The Seattle defenseman threaded a pass to the backdoor where Wennberg tapped it past Georgiev for the equalizer.
11:45 - COL 2, SEA 1 - Shortly after Seattle evened the score 1-1, Makar sprung Malgin on a breakaway. The shifty winger snapped a sizzling wrist shot past Grubauer's glove. Evan Rodrigues also notched an assist.

Third Period:
17:30 - COL 2, SEA 2 -Seattle tied the score up late in the game as the Avalanche struggled to clear the puck from behind their net.Schwartz intercepted the puck and passed it to Tanev at the net front who put the puck past Georgiev.
Overtime:
1:24 - SEA 3, COL 2 -
The Kraken won a faceoff and maintained possession of the puck. Vince Dunn sprung Gourde for a breakaway where he unleashed his shot to beat Georgiev blocker side. Matty Berniers also tallied an assist.


NOTEWORTHY:
  • MacKinnon tallied his 25th goal of the season.
  • Malgin scored his sixth goal of the season.
  • Nichushkin returned to the lineup after being sidelined for one game due to illness and skated alongside Lehkonen and MacKinnon.
  • Georgiev made his 44th start of the season while his record fell 26-14-4.
  • Colorado finished the game 0-for-2 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
  • Kurtis MacDermid, Pavel Francouz (lower body) and Darren Helm (lower body) were scratches for the Avalanche.
