ST. PAUL -- Tuesday night, two taken-aback local pee wee teams arrived in style to an awaiting crowd of fans outside South St. Paul's Doug Woog Arena. With celebrity coaches on the bench and all the dressing of a Wild home contest, the puck dropped for the latest Youth Hockey Spotlight Game presented by U.S. Bank.
South St. Paul alum and Wild goaltender Alex Stalock served as honorary coach for the South St. Paul Packers, while Minnesota assistant Dean Evason stood on the bench with the Inver Grove Heights Spartans.
Now in its third season, the Wild's Youth Hockey Spotlight brings many facets of a Wild game -- from music to a public address announcer to the team's famous "Let's Play Hockey" call -- to a youth game in the State of Hockey. Players are surprised when they show up to find what they thought would be just another game has become anything but.
