World Championship: Faksa, Klingberg moving on to quarterfinals

Stars defenseman John Klingberg scored his first goal at this year's IIHF World Championship on Tuesday, but Sweden fell to Russia, 7-4, on the final day of preliminary-round play.
Sweden, which finished third in Group B with a 5-2-0 record, will play Finland, which finished second in Group A, in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Russia, which finished first in Group B with a 7-0-0 record, will play the United States, which finished fourth in Group A.

Klingberg scored late in the third period, sliding along the blue line and then slipping from the left point to the left circle where he roofed a shot over the glove hand of Russian goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy to make it a 7-4 game.

Klingberg, who played on the top defense pair with Arizona's Oliver Ekman-Larsson, finished the game with two shots on goal and a minus-2 rating while logging a team-high 24:11 of ice time. The Stars defenseman has three points (one goal, two assists) and a plus-2 rating in four games while leading Sweden with 23:16 of ice time per game.

Faksa, Czech Republic edge Switzerland

Stars center Radek Faksa did not record any points as Czech Republic defeated Switzerland, 5-4, to finish in second place in Group B with a 6-1-0 record. The Czechs will face Germany, the third-place team in Group A in Thursday's quarterfinals. Switzerland, which placed fourth in Group B, will play Canada, the top team in Group A on Thursday.
Faksa, who centered the second line with Washington's Jakub Vrana and Dmitrij Jaskin on his wings, had no shots on goal, a minus-one rating and won 11 of 15 faceoffs. The Dallas center has four points (one goal, three assists) and a plus-1 rating in four games and he's won 37 of 63 faceoffs (58.7 percent).

Finland vs. Sweden, 1:15 p.m.
Czech Republic vs. Germany, 1:15 p.m.
