Goaltender Markus Ruusu stops 34 shots for first shutout in Finland's top league

Stars goaltending prospect Markus Ruusu hasn't played often in Finland's top league this season, but when he has had the opportunity he has excelled.

Ruusu posted his first career shutout in the top league on Friday, stopping 34 shots as KooKoo defeated HIFK, 1-0, in overtime. Ruusu, who had been playing with JYP-Akatemia in the second league recently, was on a one-game loan to KooKoo, which was undergoing some injury issues at the goaltending position.

The 19-year-old Ruusu, a sixth-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, has started four games in the top league this season, posting a 3-1-0 record, 1.91 goals-against average and. 940 save percentage. He has stopped 125 of 133 shots, including 96 of 99 in his three victories.

He is 5-6-1 in the second league this season with a 3.90 GAA and .871 SV%.
