About the Stars

The Stars (0-2-0) lost 4-2 in St. Louis Saturday. The Stars surrendered three goals in a five-minute span of the first period to fall behind 3-0 and could never catch up.
"We absolutely did ourselves in," said Stars coach Ken Hitchcock. "We had a great start to the game. The first 10 or 12 minutes was exactly what we wanted. But when there was sustained pressure in our zone we started to over pursue and made some mistakes."
Hitchcock doesn't like the 0-2-0 record, but he likes a lot of what he has seen as far as how his team has played through the first two games. The Stars have outshot their opponents 86-51 through two games and hold a 134-99 advantage in shot attempts.
"In a way, it is the start we wanted based on play or analytics. It's just the record isn't what we wanted," Hitchcock said. "We've just got to keep going. We're doing a lot of good things, and we've got to keep building on the good things, learn a little bit about the score and controlling the game clock. Man, there are a lot of things we are doing that I like."
C Martin Hanzal, who left Saturday's game with a lower-body injury, practiced Monday and is probable for Tuesday. D Dan Hamhuis (groin) did not practice Monday and is questionable for Tuesday.
The Stars play three of their next four games at home.
Injuries:C Martin Hanzal (lower body) is probable. D Dan Hamhuis (groin) is questionable.

About the Red Wings

The Red Wings (2-0-0) are coming off a 2-1 shootout victory at Ottawa Saturday. Jimmy Howard stopped 37 shots in regulation and overtime and then all three Ottawa shooters in the shootout.
"I thought Jimmy was good. He's been real solid," Detroit coach Jeff Blashill told media after the game. "I think we've done a pretty good job of not giving up high-end chances. We've given up a number of shots, but I think he's battled in front of our net."
Martin Frk scored in regulation, and Frans Nielsen scored the lone shootout goal for the Red Wings who opened the season with a 4-2 win over Minnesota.
Defenseman Niklas Kronwall, who has been out with a back injury, practiced Monday. He hopes to play by the end of the week.
Tuesday's game is the second of a four-game road trip for Detroit.
Injuries:D Niklas Kronwall (back) is out.
