The Dallas Stars went into Saturday night's NHL Draft Lottery with the 13th-best odds to secure the first overall pick in this summer's NHL Draft in Dallas, and they came out of it with the 13th overall pick in the first round.
The Stars, who won the third overall pick in last year's draft lottery and selected defenseman Miro Heiskanen, had a 2.0 percent chance of landing the first overall pick this year and a 6.6 percent chance of landing a top-three pick this year. They also had an 85.5 percent chance of landing the 13thoverall pick, and that's where they ended up.

The last time the Stars selected 13th overall was 2012 when they selected center Radek Faksa out of Kitchener of the Ontario Hockey League.
Buffalo won Saturday's draft lottery to secure the first overall pick in this summer's draft, which will be held in Dallas June 22-23. The Sabres had the best odds of winning the draft lottery at 18.5 percent. Carolina, which had the 11th best up odds, moved up to secure the second overall pick. Montreal, which ranked fourth in the lottery odds, ended up with the third overall pick.

Top prospects

Swedish defenseman Rasmus Dahlin is considered the top prospect for this year's draft. Forwards Andrei Svechnikov, Filip Zadina, and Brady Tkachuk are among the other top prospects.
