For the sixth time in 10 games this season, the Stars needed extra time to settle the score. And in desperate need of a win, their captain came through with a milestone goal on a momentous night.
Racing in on a 2-on-2 rush in sudden death with Joe Pavelski, Jamie Benn sent a shot over Jacob Markstrom's shoulder with 2:01 remaining in sudden death to give the Stars a 4-3 overtime victory against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday.

"Just a simple cross-and-drop," Benn said to reporters after the game. "I've been trying to work on things in 3-on-3 ovetime, and it just worked out."
With the goal, Benn surpassed Mike Modano for first place on the franchise's all-time list for overtime tallies (10) on a night he passed Jere Lehtinen for third all-time in games played (876).

Benn continued his strong production against the Flames, especially in Calgary. He has four goals and five points in his past six games at Scotiabank Saddledome and continues to lead active Stars in career scoring vs. Calgary with 19 goals and 34 points in 35 career head-to-head contests.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Stars, who bounced back after a 4-3 shootout loss on Tuesday in Winnipeg. The Stars improved to 4-4-2 on the season but have yet to earn two points in regulation. They held the lead twice on Thursday but gave up the game-tying goal with under four minutes remaining in the third to force OT.
For whatever reason, the Stars have found tremendous success at Scotiabank Saddledome. They pushed their win streak in Calgary to five in a row, the second longest road winning streak for the team (only a six-game winning streak in LA is longer). They also improved to 8-1-1 in the past 10 games overall against the Flames.
Anton Khudobin turned in a 30-save performance to improve his record this season to 2-1-1.
After watching Tuesday's game from the press box, Denis Gurianov returned to the lineup on Thursday and wasted no time leaving his mark. He was a difference maker at both ends of the ice and on 5-on-5, something head coach Rick Bowness wants more of from the 24-year-old forward. He was one of three goal scorers in regulation, which included Blake Comeau and Tyler Seguin.
Gurianov opened the scoring with a power-play goal at the 14:09 mark of the first period on a terrific pass from Miro Heiskanen, who finished the night with three assists in a game-high 25:22 TOI.

After giving up two unanswered goals to the Flames, the Stars responded with five seconds remaining in the second period when Comeau jumped out of the penalty box and snuck a wrist shot shortside on Markstrom to tie the game 2-2.

Seguin put the Stars up 3-2 at the 1:34 mark of the third with his team-leading fourth goal of the season. With the goal, Seguin passed Steve Payne (228) for sole possession of 10th place on the franchise's all-time goals list.

The Flames tied it with under four minutes remaining in the third when Nikita Zadorov wired a wrist shot from the high slot, but Benn's goal in OT ensured the extra point for the Stars.
Dallas will wrap up the road trip on Sunday against the Vancouver Canucks.
