The Stars are certainly feeling the burn, and it's not just because they lost their third game in a row, a 4-2 defeat to the Calgary Flames on Thursday.
In desperate need of a victory - or even just a point - the Stars couldn't get either. Instead, they ended up winless on their final road trip of the season, and there isn't room for error any longer.

The Stars failed to capitalize on the games in hand they had on the Golden Knights, who are two points behind them for the final wild card. Both teams have four games remaining, the Stars with 91 points and the Golden Knights with 89. They play each other at American Airlines Center on Tuesday.
Jake Oettinger did what he could, denying 33 of 36 shots, including several dazzling stops on Oliver Kylington and Elias Lindholm, but the Flames tallied goals from Matthew Tkachuk, Noah Hanifin, Chris Tanev and Andrew Mangiapane (empty net).

Dallas had to play catch-up all game and managed to erase two separate one-goal deficits on goals from Jason Robertson and Luke Glendening.
Robertson's tally evened the score, 1-1, on his team-leading 38th goal of the season at the 11:53 mark of the second period.

Glendening's goal came off a terrific rush up the ice from rookie Fredrik Karlstrom, who was making his NHL debut. The 24-year-old Karlstrom started the sequence with a breakaway on Flames goalie Jacob Markstrom. And while his shot was stopped, Glendening was able to tap home the rebound to even the score at two goals apiece five minutes into the third.

Tanev's goal with 6:55 remaining in regulation was crushing, and a Jamie Benn high-sticking penalty with less than four minutes left in the game gave the Stars only 92 seconds to work with after they killed off the infraction.
The Stars will return to Dallas to open a season-ending four-game homestand that'll determine whether or not they advance to the postseason.
