According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Raanta became the first goaltender in Rangers history to post a shutout in his first start against his former team, as well as the first Rangers goaltender to earn a shutout against his former team (in any start) since Jacques Plante on Mar. 8, 1964 against Montreal. He has allowed two goals or fewer in each of his last eight starts (and each of his last nine appearances). Raanta has posted a 7-1-0 record, along with a 1.69 GAA and a .941 SV% in his nine starts this season. He ranks fifth in the NHL in SV% (.939) and is tied for fifth in GAA (1.83) this season.

STEP-AN UP
Derek Stepan has recorded six points (one goal, five assists) in the last five games and nine points (three goals, six assists) in the last 11 contests. Stepan is tied for the team lead - and leads Rangers forwards - in assists this season (15). - Dec. 10, 1972 - In the first game between the Rangers and Islanders at MSG, the Blueshirts earned a 4-1 win. - Dec. 10, 2011 - The Rangers registered their 2,500th win in franchise history, defeating the Buffalo Sabres, 4-1. - Dec. 11, 1941 - Lynn Patrick registered a hat trick, including two goals in the final minute of the contest, to help the Rangers defeat the Brooklyn Americans, 5-3, at MSG. - Dec. 11, 1975 - In his return to Boston after being traded to the Rangers, Phil Esposito tallied two assists to help the Rangers defeat the Bruins, 5-1, at Boston Garden.
