The Pittsburgh Penguins announced today that United States Steel Corporation (U. S. Steel), a Pittsburgh-based steel producer with a 125-year history of innovation and a commitment to building the future of American steel, will be the team’s official helmet partner beginning with the 2026-27 season. The collaboration unites two iconic organizations whose histories helped shape Pittsburgh’s identity.

The U. S. Steel wordmark will be featured on the players’ helmets for all games and practices through the 2026-27 regular season and playoffs. The U. S. Steel wordmark will either appear in black, white or gold depending on which uniform the Penguins are wearing. The wordmark will be located on both sides of each player’s helmet. The team will debut the helmets in game action on Monday, September 21 at 7:00 PM when the Penguins kickoff their preseason slate against the Buffalo Sabres at PPG Paints Arena.

“U. S. Steel is an iconic Pittsburgh brand that shares so many values with our organization – hard work, resiliency, dedication and pride for the City of Pittsburgh – and we are honored to add their logo to our helmets this season,” said Geoff Hoffmann, Chairman and Governor of the Pittsburgh Penguins. “This extension of our partnership is a testament to their local commitment and provides global exposure of a Pittsburgh mainstay to millions of our fans around the world.”

The partnership expands U. S. Steel’s association with the Penguins, which was established in 2021, and includes the Reading Champions program in collaboration with the Penguins Foundation. Reading Champions inspires third grade students throughout Mon Valley area schools to be champions of reading by encouraging them to read for 20 minutes a day (the length of a hockey period). As participants rack up minutes, they can help their class win tickets to a Penguins game and other prizes. Nearly 2,500 third grade students have participated in Reading Champions across the Mon Valley, logging over 2.8 million minutes read.

"Steel built Pittsburgh, and the Penguins helped define its spirit,” said David Burritt, U. S. Steel President and Chief Executive Officer. “For generations, both organizations have represented hard work, resilience, and pride in our city. We're proud to place the U. S. Steel name alongside one of hockey's most respected franchises as we continue investing in safer operations, stronger communities, and a brighter future for the region we call home."

U. S. Steel also participates in the Penguins Pledge sustainability initiative which serves as the organization's commitment to improve all efforts of social, economic and environmental sustainability, as well as “Try Hockey for Free Day”.
