LAS VEGAS -- Laurent Brossoit made 29 saves, and the Vegas Golden Knights eliminated the Winnipeg Jets with a 4-1 win in Game 5 of the Western Conference First Round at T-Mobile Arena on Thursday.

"The biggest thing that stands out for me, Brossoit] seems calm and collected," Vegas forward Chandler Stephenson said. "Whether it's a weird shot or one that sinks, something like that, he makes it seem effortless. You can see the confidence he's playing right now. To start [the season in the American Hockey League and] to be where he's at has been awesome to see."
Stephenson scored two goals and had an assist, and Mark Stone had a goal and two assists for the Golden Knights, the top seed in the West. They advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs to face the Edmonton Oilers or Los Angeles Kings. Edmonton has a 3-2 lead in that best-of-7 series heading into Game 6 in Los Angeles on Saturday.
"We were obviously very motivated to win that one," Brossoit said. "Tonight especially, you don't want to travel again if you can avoid it and take advantage of the rest. … Start to finish, every line, every [defense] pairing was very motivated and playing at the top of their game."

Kyle Connor scored, and Connor Hellebuyck made 21 saves for the Jets, the second wild card in the West.
"I'm so disappointed and disgusted right now," Winnipeg coach Rick Bowness said. "This series we had no pushback. Their better players were so much better than ours. It's not even close."
Stephenson gave Vegas a 1-0 lead 50 seconds into the game, tapping in Stone's pass from the slot.
It marked the fourth time this postseason that Stone assisted on a Stephenson goal.
"Often times, you just find chemistry with a guy," Stone said. "We see each other's game very well. It's hard to explain. Maybe Chandler's speed backing guys off kind of gives me time on the walls with the puck and puts them on their heels a bit. Chemistry is weird. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Fortunately, we made it work."

Stone gave the Golden Knights a 2-0 lead just 42 seconds into the second period after gloving down a puck and roofing a wrist shot from the high slot.
"It was reactionary. I wasn't planning on doing any of that," Stone said. "Happy to get that goal early on."
William Karlsson extended the Vegas lead to 3-0 at 4:41, finishing a pass from a Michael Amadio feed from the left face-off circle.
Stephenson scored on the power play to make it 4-0, one-timing a Stone pass from the inside edge of the left circle at 8:37.
"It's always nice to get off to a good start. Not to hunt," Karlsson said. "It's better not to hunt. It's something we talked about. They came out strong the first two games here. We kind of wanted to be that team that gets off strong."

Connor scored with Hellebuyck off for an extra attacker for the 4-1 final.
Pierre-Luc Dubois appeared to cut it to 4-2 at 17:25, but the Golden Knights challenged for a missed stoppage. Video review determined Blake Wheeler had made a hand pass, and the goal was overturned.
The Jets outshot the Golden Knights 16-2 in the third period.
"Up until the goalie came out for them, then it got a little hectic for us," Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. "We lost a little bit of our urgency, obviously, and execution in the third after probably the 10-minute mark. We weren't skating pucks out and making plays. We made it interesting for 'LB.'"
