Flames lace up skates

Even in the NHL, dad is still there to help lace up the skates.

The Calgary Flames had fun in the locker room during the first day of their Dads and Mentors Trip on Thursday in Arizona.

Forwards Andrew Mangiapane and Dillon Dube’s dads laced up their skates in the locker room before the Flames morning skate.

Mangiapane’s dad showed he still had it with an impressive ankle warp-around lace up.

Dube was also impressed with his dad’s skills.

“He did a good job. I might need him in before the game,” Dube told the Flames. “My grandpa, my dad, their hands were callused from how many times they had to tie mine and my brother's skates just nonstop, as tight as we could get them. Finally, I'm somewhat strong enough to do it now so I don't need him all the time."

The Flames dads and mentors are joining the team for their two-game west coast road trip this weekend. Calgary plays the Arizona Coyotes at Mullett Arena on Thursday and the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday.

Before the game against the Coyotes, the dads and mentors read the Flames starting lineup.
