With the NHL pausing the 2019-20 regular season on March 12 due to the concerns surrounding the coronavirus, NHL.com is taking stock of each of the League's 31 teams.
Today, a look at three memorable moments for the Carolina Hurricanes at the pause:

Few knew of David Ayres before Feb. 22. Then he became the story of the NHL season.
The 42-year-old became the first emergency backup goalie to win and the oldest goalie to win his NHL debut for the Carolina Hurricanes against the Toronto Maple Leafs, which prompted a whirlwind media tour that culminated in him cranking the siren at Carolina's home game Feb. 25.

Andrei Svechnikov liked scoring lacrosse goals so much he did it twice.
After becoming the first player to convert the lacrosse goal in an NHL game against the Calgary Flames on Oct. 29, Svechnikov did it
against the Winnipeg Jets
on Dec. 17.

The
post-win celebrations
returned for a second season in Carolina.
Carolina creatively came up with a
slew of new Storm Surges
, but our favorite was the touchdown the Hurricanes drew up after their Super Bowl Sunday shootout win against the Vancouver Canucks on Feb. 2.
