The St. Louis Blues are helping their hometown show front-line workers some love.

The Blues are teaming up with the St. Louis Cardinals and other civic and business leaders to participate in Rise Up for Heroes to honor workers fighting the COVID-19 pandemic in the city.

Blues mascot Louie and Cardinals mascot Fredbird took part in the initial Rise Up care-avan ride Saturday and will continue to take the 90-minute trip through the Greater St. Louis area starting at 5:30 CT every other day through Sunday.

At 7 p.m. CT, community members are encouraged to show their appreciation for hospital workers, first responders, police and other essential workers by opening their windows or stepping outside their homes to cheer them.

"Whether it is clapping, singing, dancing or whatever you want to do, as long as it's safe and responsible," Blues captain Alex Pietrangelo said in a press release. "We're asking everyone on all sides of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers to join in raising the volume and clarity of our gratitude."
