AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- Like NHL outdoor games, marriage proposals require intricate preparation and flawless execution, and Colorado Avalanche fan Corey McKinney was up to the task in his picture-perfect hockey proposal.

McKinney, a 28-year-old from Arvada, Colorado asked his girlfriend, Destiny Jacobs, to marry him during the leadup to the NHL Navy Federal Credit Union Stadium Series between the Avalanche and Los Angeles Kings at Falcon Stadium at the U.S. Air Force Academy on Saturday. She said yes.
"I literally postponed the engagement] for two months just to be here," McKinney said. "I was definitely looking forward to this. I was hoping for some mountain views but the ice view with the way the scenery is, the way they made it, it seemed perfect tonight."
McKinney and Jacobs have been friends for almost nine years but started officially dating six months ago. They are huge Avalanche fans and were wearing jerseys to the game. Jacobs, 22, lives in Louisiana and had her eyebrows painted in Avalanche colors; her right in maroon and her left in blue.

The proposal even caused a roar in the crowd while it was filing into the stadium, making the moment extra special.
"I didn't expect it at all to get such a good outcome with everyone around us [in the crowd]," Jacobs said.
The Avalanche also gave a Twitter reaction to the proposal.

McKinney shared the moment with eight others in his group, including his mother, Gineva, and father, Terry. On one of the biggest nights of hockey in Colorado, McKinney's family was humbled to see the happy couple in the spotlight.
"It's just exciting because it allows them to do something they've wanted to do for a long time and for their family," Gineva said.
The group also included McKinney's two brothers. The McKinney family also attended the 2016 NHL Stadium Series between the Avalanche and Detroit Red Wings at Coors Field in Denver, but this was a new level of excitement.
"We went to the other outdoor game too, but none of our [three] sons proposed to anybody," Terry joked.
