The ceremonial face-off on the night he was honored was just like Scott Hartnell: Intense and aggressive.

The former Philadelphia Flyers and Nashville Predators forward didn't want any slacking off between Flyers captain Claude Giroux and Predators counterpart Roman Josi, both former teammates, when he dropped the puck, so he told them to get after it for real. Giroux won.
"I put them up to it, $100 to whoever wins it," Hartnell said. "Let's put some intensity in. G is one of the best on faceoffs and Roman is a defenseman, so kind of knew it was going to be for him."
The entire night was very Hartnell, including his tribute video, a compilation of falls and goals while falling which the team hashtagged with #HartnellDown and set to "Tubthumping" by Chumbawamba.

Hartnell also had a lot of fun with Gritty before the game.

"Gritty is amazing. He's my best friend and I love him," Hartnell said. "He's pretty cool on the pictures, he's funny. Seeing him live, the way he does what he does is hilarious. Us doing each other's hair was the highlight of the afternoon."
Some former teammates, including Jaromir Jagr, sent Hartnell some well wishes. Jagr said he is still playing hockey and is "looking for somebody on my line who is slower than me and I know you'd be a perfect fit."

Hartnell stuck around for the postgame as well; he and newborn son Wesley crashed Giroux's media scrum.
