Wiesblatt signs entry-level contract with Sharks

Ozzy Wiesblatt
signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks on Friday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The 18-year-old forward was selected by the Sharks in the first round (No. 31) of the 2020 NHL Draft on Oct. 6. San Jose director of scouting Doug Wilson Jr. used American Sign Language to announce the pick; Wiesblatt's mother, Kim, is deaf and is a single mom to five children.

"That means a ton, especially to my mom, and just the deaf community in general," Wiesblatt said after being selected. "It's just a very nice gesture for him to do. And my mom will never forget that."
Wiesblatt scored 70 points (25 goals, 45 assists) and had a plus-20 rating in 64 games with Prince Albert of the Western Hockey League last season. He finished second on the team in assists and points, third in goals and sixth in rating. He has scored 110 points (41 goals, 69 assists) in 129 WHL games.
"Ozzy brings speed, playmaking and offense to the lineup, which makes it difficult to play against a talented skater like him," Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said. "His tenacity for the puck paired with his ability to retain possession and drive the offensive side of the game, along with his character on and off the ice, makes him a valuable player for our organization."
