LOS ANGELES -- Brent Burns and Tommy Wingels scored in the first period, and Joe Pavelski's power-play goal in the second helped the San Jose Sharks defeat the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 at Staples Center on Wednesday.
Martin Jones, who started his NHL career with the Kings, made 22 saves for the Sharks (27-16-2). He has 23 wins this season and is 6-2-2 against the Kings in his career.
"He was great," Burns said. "He's great every night for us. It's no different than any other night. He's a stud every night for us. Huge save in the third there, an amazing leg save."

Tanner Pearson and Marian Gaborik scored, and Dustin Brown had two assists for the Kings (22-19-4).
Burns scored his Sharks-leading 19th goal at 3:31 for a 1-0 lead. His shot from the left point changed direction when it went off Anze Kopitar.
Pearson tied it 1-1 at 5:46 when he redirected Derek Forbort's shot. Wingels made it 2-1 at 15:42.
"I lost my guy in the corner and caused a 2-on-1 up the ice," Pearson said. "It's small things like that, attention to detail."

With Kings center Jeff Carter off for high sticking, the Sharks needed nine seconds to take a 3-1 lead on Pavelski's goal at 10:00. Gaborik pulled the Kings within 3-2 at 15:19.
The Kings had five shots on goal in the third period.
"When it's that close going into the third period, you need your top guys to step up and make a difference in the third," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. "That wasn't the case."
The Kings went 3-4-0 on their homestand, losing the last two. They are eight points behind the Sharks for third place in the Pacific Division.
"You want to leave on a good note," Los Angeles defenseman Jake Muzzin said. "We're not leaving on a good note."
