BUF@CBJ: Texier snaps shot past Ullmark for OT winner

Alexandre Texier was one of seven players aged 25 or younger with at least one point for the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday. The 20-year-old forward had two points and scored his first NHL game-winning goal 2:08 into overtime to defeat the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 at Nationwide Arena.

Columbus (1-2-0) entered this season with the youngest opening-night roster by average age (25.7), joining the Carolina Hurricanes (25.8), New York Rangers (25.9) and Toronto Maple Leafs (25.9) as the fourth NHL team with an average age younger than 26.
Oliver Bjorkstrand, 24, got the Blue Jackets going in Buffalo with his first goal of the season at 18:09 of the opening period. Alex Wennberg, 25, Pierre-Luc Dubois, 21, Seth Jones, 25, and Zach Werenski, 22 all had assists for Columbus.
Texier (second round, No. 45 of the 2017 NHL Draft) and Bjorkstrand (third round, No. 89 of the 2013 NHL Draft) were two of an NHL-high 16 drafted players on the Blue Jackets' opening-night roster. The Philadelphia Flyers were next with 14.

Pietrangelo, Binnington help Blues extend winning streak vs. Maple Leafs

Two Toronto-arena natives, Alex Pietrangelo and Jordan Binnington, played key roles when the St. Louis Blues won their seventh consecutive game against the Maple Leafs, 3-2 at Scotiabank Arena.
Pietrangelo, a native of King City, Ontario, less than 30 miles from Toronto, scored the game-winning goal at 7:51 of the third period. It was his 400th NHL point (95 goals, 305 assists) in 691 games. Pietrangelo became the second defenseman to have 400 points with the Blues, joining Al MacInnis (452 points; 127 goals, 325 assists). It was his 23rd game-winning goal, moving him past MacInnis (22) for the
most by a defenseman in Blues history
.
Binnington, whose name was honored this offseason on a population sign in Richmond Hill, Ontario, 23 miles north of Scotiabank Arena, on July 12 after he helped the Blues win the Stanley Cup for the first time since entering the NHL in 1967, made 32 saves to become the 52nd Ontario-born goalie to win his first game at Toronto. He's the fourth to do so in the past decade, joining Carter Hutton of the Nashville Predators on Feb. 23, 2016, Cam Talbot of the Rangers on Jan. 4, 2014, and Justin Peters of the Hurricanes on March 2, 2010.
The Blues have won seven straight games against the Maple Leafs since Feb. 2, 2017, outscoring them 25-12 during that span. It's their longest such run against Toronto, surpassing the previous mark of six from Feb. 1, 1988 to Oct. 29, 1988.

Hurricanes aim to continue hot start

The Hurricanes will try to start their season with four consecutive victories for the first time since the franchise moved from Hartford in 1997 when they visit the Florida Panthers at BB&T Center on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; FS-F, FS-CR, NHL.TV).
The only other time Carolina/Hartford started a season 4-0-0 was 1995-96, when the Hartford Whalers won their first four games.
