100 classic

It was a big, if cold, night in for the Ottawa Senators at the
2017 Scotiabank NHL100 Classic
on Saturday. It was also a big night for one of the hottest teams in the League and the increasingly tight Metropolitan Division.
At Lansdowne Park in Ottawa, where the temperature at puck drop was 12.5 degrees Fahrenheit, Craig Anderson made 28 saves to
help the Senators to a 3-0 win
against the Montreal Canadiens.

It was the fourth shutout in the NHL's 23 regular-season outdoor games. The others were by Miikka Kiprusoff of the Calgary Flames, who made 39 saves in 4-0 win against the Canadiens in the 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic at McMahon Stadium in Calgary on Feb. 20, 2011; Jonas Hiller of the Anaheim Ducks, who made 36 saves in a 3-0 win against the Los Angeles Kings in the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Jan. 26, 2014, and Cam Talbot of the Edmonton Oilers, who made 31 saves in a 3-0 win against the Winnipeg Jets in the 2016 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg on Oct. 23, 2016.
The NHL100 Classic was played in front of a sellout crowd of 33,959. Total attendance for the League's 23 regular-season outdoor games now stands at 1,242,276, an average of 54,012 per game.
Mario Lemieux was honored at the game for his five-goal, five-ways game, which was
voted Greatest NHL Moment by the fans
.
Perhaps no one had a better time at the game than Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson, who
busted out a few dance moves
.

Metro stars

The Metropolitan Division, where all eight teams are separated by eight points, had a big night, with six of the seven teams in action Saturday getting wins. Four of them -- the New York Rangers, Washington Capitals, Philadelphia Flyers and New York Islanders -- all won in overtime. The Pittsburgh Penguins won on a tiebreaking goal with 15 seconds remaining in the third period. The other team to win was the Carolina Hurricanes, who defeated a division rival, the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Capitals won on an overtime goal from Alex Ovechkin, who scored his NHL-record 21st regular-season OT goal to give Washington a 3-2 win against the Anaheim Ducks.
