NEW YORK -- No longer a bridesmaid, Dallas Stars GWC representative Matthew 'Gren-35-' Grenier is the 2021 NHL® Gaming World Championship™ North American Champion, the National Hockey League announced tonight.

It took three games in the final series, featuring the best two players, to determine a Champion. In the highly anticipated final series, highly skilled performer Gren-35- faced archrival and reigning GWC Canadian Champion, Justin 'Ez\Regs' Reguly, who represented the Boston Bruins. Tied 3-3 heading into the third period of the final game, St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko scored the game-winning goal for Team Gren with just 26 seconds left in the game.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman shared a congratulatory message after the Final match and GWC voice Arda Ocal presented Gren-35- with a virtual prize check worth $25,000 USD.
Grenier is the only player to advance to the GWC Final in four consecutive years and entered the Final as the No. 4 seed. The 20-year-old resident of Houston, Texas, finally captured his elusive GWC Championship. Gren-35- scored 30 goals through the semifinal and final series, while allowing only 25 goals through six games. Grenier, who also aliases as Yung Gren, has been a force of consistency in NHL gaming competitions, advancing to the World Finals from 2018 to 2020 after taking second place in the GWC Canadian Regional Final for those three seasons. Grenier has also won several NHL Club tournaments, including with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens and Philadelphia Flyers.
