Quest for the Stanley Cup premieres September 2nd

EDMONTON / TORONTO - Quest For The Stanley Cup™, the behind-the-scenes documentary series chronicling the remaining eight teams - Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Vancouver Canucks and Vegas Golden Knights - in the midst of the 2020 Stanley Cup® Playoffs and the NHL's return to the ice under extraordinary circumstances, will premiere Wednesday, Sept. 2, exclusively on
ESPN+
in the U.S. and on
YouTube.com/NHL
in Canada.

Through six episodes, the two-time Sports Emmy Award-nominated series will take viewers inside the secure zones in Edmonton and Toronto, from the action on the ice and on the benches to the creative ways players, coaches and team personnel are spending their down time, to give viewers an all-access pass during the high-stakes Stanley Cup Playoffs and the pursuit of the Stanley Cup - the hardest trophy to win in professional sports.
Quest For The Stanley Cup premiered in 2016 to critical acclaim, making the National Hockey League the first North American pro sports league to provide unprecedented access to its postseason. For the fifth straight year, the weekly series will be produced by Ross Greenburg Productions, under the direction of award-winning producer Ross Greenburg, in association with NHL Original Productions. NHL Chief Content Officer Steve Mayer will serve as an executive producer. Emmy and Tony Award-nominated actor
Bill Camp
returns as narrator.
"Over the years, including the past two seasons on ESPN+, the success of Quest For The Stanley Cup is due in large part to the incredible access our embedded crews have to players, coaches and team personnel on and off the ice," said Mayer. "This season, the unique circumstances of the 2019-20 season, the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs, and the bubbles in Edmonton and Toronto will provide unparalleled and compelling storytelling. We aren't just chronicling the Playoffs; we're recording history."
For the third straight season,
ESPN+
subscribers will have access to the entire series throughout the Playoffs, with new episodes available each Wednesday starting next week. Fans in Canada will be able to watch Quest For The Stanley Cup every Wednesday evening on

Following a 142-day pause, the NHL dropped the puck with the Stanley Cup Qualifiers on Saturday, Aug. 1, followed by the start of the First Round of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs on Tuesday, Aug. 11. The Qualifiers delivered nine days of thrills, including 15 come-from-behind wins, three of four teams seeded 11 or 12 advancing to the First Round, seven games with tying or go-ahead goals scored in the final 90 seconds of regulation, and three hat tricks, among other impressive feats.
That was followed by a First Round which saw 24 of 43 games (56%) decided by a single goal, including eight games that required overtime. Teams rallied from behind to win 17 times, including seven multi-goal comebacks. The Stars eliminated the Calgary Flames in Game 6 by scoring seven unanswered goals to overcome an early 3-0 deficit; rookie Denis Gurianov carried the Stars' offense with four goals and five points, tying the NHL mark for most goals by a rookie in a postseason game. Series upsets saw each of the last two Stanley Cup champions (the St. Louis Blues in 2019 and the Washington Capitals in 2018) eliminated in the First Round. Meanwhile, the Lightning, which was upset by the Columbus Blue Jackets in a stunning First Round sweep in 2019, won the rematch in five games, including a five-overtime thriller in Game 1, the fourth-longest game in NHL history.
