The forward was in training camp on a professional tryout contract, and had three points (one goal, two assists) and six blocked shots in five preseason games.
The 29-year-old had 15 points (eight goals, seven assists) in 68 games with the Devils last season after attending their training camp on a PTO and signing a one-year contract Oct. 10. Vesey has established himself as an elite penalty killer and ranked second among Devils forwards in short-handed time on ice (137:15) and led the team in fewest power-play goals against per 60 minutes (6.15; minimum 70 minutes TOI)
Vesey played his first three NHL seasons with the Rangers, signing as a free agent on Aug. 19, 2016, after winning the 2016 Hobey Baker Award as the top player in NCAA men's ice hockey for Harvard University. He had 90 points (50 goals, 40 assists) in 240 regular-season games with the Rangers, including a career high in points (35) and assists (18), and tied his career high in goals (17) in 81 games in 2018-19.
He has 135 points (72 goals, 63 assists) in 422 regular-season games with the Rangers, Sabres, Maple Leafs, Canucks and Devils. He has five points (one goal, four assists) in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
