The Islanders are one point behind the first-place Washington Capitals, who play at home Tuesday against the Carolina Hurricanes. New York is tied for second place with the Pittsburgh Penguins, who have played one more game.
The Islanders will be without forward Andrew Ladd, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee against the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday and will miss the rest of the season.
Columbus is two points behind the Montreal Canadiens, who host the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, for the second wild card from the East.

Islanders goalie Thomas Greiss has back-to-back shutouts against the Blue Jackets. He has stopped 79 consecutive shots and has a scoreless streak of 151:27 against Columbus. Greiss is 3-0-0 with a goals-against average of 0.67 and a .978 save percentage against Columbus this season.
Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky is 2-1-0 in his past three games with a 1.01 goals-against average, a .969 save percentage and two shutouts.
