Clark Gillies Short Shifts

It's not every day that a trip to the gas station yields a meeting with a Hockey Hall of Famer, but that was the case for some lucky but unsuspecting New York Islanders fans recently.

Clark Gillies, who played 872 of his 958 NHL games with the Islanders and helped them win the Stanley Cup in four consecutive seasons between 1980-83, went undercover as a worker at Long Island gas station mini-mart as part of the "Pumped Up Isles" campaign.

Fans are given two tickets to an Islanders game if they pose inside a cardboard cutout of an Islanders player, with Gillies serving as an attendant willing to take their picture. He manages to sneak in an autographed photo of himself playing for the Islanders, which serves as the giveaway.
Some diehard fans don't fall for the trick, but others took the bait, including one woman who seemed stunned that she was standing next to an Islanders legend.
It just goes to show you never know when you'll cross paths with a legend from your favorite team.
