The Lightning won Game 1 5-2 on Thursday with three points from Ondrej Palat (one goal, two assists). The Devils will try to win their first Stanley Cup Playoff game since Game 5 of the 2012 Final against the Los Angeles Kings.
Here are 5 keys for Game 2:

1. Lightning's secondary scoring

With the Devils focusing a lot of their defensive efforts on the top line of Steven Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov and J.T. Miller, the Lightning found success with their secondary lines. The Palat-Tyler Johnson-Brayden Point line combined for two goals and four assists, and the Alex Killorn-Anthony Cirelli-Yanni Gourde line scored two goals.
"You're going to have certain lines trying to shut down certain lines," Stamkos said. "We have the depth at really all four lines that guys can chip in and score. I think that makes it tough for other teams to match up."

2. Finding space for Hall

Devils forward Taylor Hall had a goal off a turnover and an assist on a power-play goal, but Tampa Bay was able to limit his space in most even-strength situations. Hall started the game on a line with Nico Hischier and Kyle Palmieri but was juggled with different linemates through the final two periods.
"He's a dangerous player when he gets through and gets room to skate," Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman said. "Doesn't matter if it's me or [Mikhail] Sergachev or [Braydon] Coburn out there, you have to be hard on him and get him off the puck as quick as you can."

3. Can Kinkaid bounce back?

Devils goaltender Keith Kinkaid has been one of the hottest goalies in the NHL, but Thursday was a rare off night.
He entered the playoffs 16-3-1 in his last 21 regular-season games (20 starts), with a 2.32 goals-against average and .929 save percentage, but Tampa Bay scored four against him in Game 1 and had several other scoring chances miss the net.
Kinkaid hasn't lost consecutive starts since losing three straight from Feb. 6-10.

4. Lineup adjustments

Devils coach John Hynes tried to mix up his lines during practice Friday and said there may be some changes for Game 2.
One possible switch to look for could be Hall and center Travis Zajac; they combined for a power-play goal in the third period Thursday.

5. More from McDonagh

Lightning coach Jon Cooper suggested his top players have more to give. Cooper mentioned defenseman Ryan McDonagh and said his workload and responsibility will continue to increase as he gets comfortable with Tampa Bay's style of play. He was acquired in a trade with the New York Rangers on Feb. 26.
