Ducks' Thompson sustains ruptured Achilles' tendon

Anaheim Ducks center Nate Thompson will miss the start of next season after sustaining a ruptured Achilles' tendon during a workout session.
"We'll be lucky to see him before the [2017 NHL] Trade Deadline, but he healed quickly from his shoulder injury," Ducks general manager Bob Murray said Tuesday during a press conference introducing Randy Carlyle as coach.

The 2017 NHL Trade Deadline will be in late February or early March.
Thompson, 31, had shoulder surgery last offseason and was out the first 25 games of the season. He also missed time in March with a lower-body injury. He had three goals, three assists and 47 penalty minutes in 49 regular-season games and two goals in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Thompson, who was selected by the Boston Bruins in the sixth round (No. 183) of the 2003 NHL Draft, has 47 goals, 62 assists and 285 penalty minutes in 520 regular-season games in nine seasons with the Bruins, Ducks, New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning.
