Mindy Kaling responds to Penguins' goal celebration

The Pittsburgh Penguins keep finding ways to get high-profile celebrities on their bandwagon. Actress Mindy Kaling may be their biggest fan yet.
When forward Chris Kunitz scored to give the Penguins a 3-2 lead late in the second period of Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Penguins social media team tweeted a GIF of Kaling dancing with Elmo on "Sesame Street" to celebrate.

Kaling, the creator and star of "The Mindy Project" who is also renowned for playing Kelly Kapoor on the television series "The Office," cheered on the Penguins to her more than 7 million Twitter followers after seeing their subtweet go viral.

Then, after Kaling responded, the Penguins offered to send her to an upcoming game at Consol Energy Center.

She has yet to respond to their gesture -- maybe because it's no guarantee the Penguins will play another home game this Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Lightning went on to win 4-3 in overtime in Game 5 to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 series. That means the Penguins must win Game 6 on the road Tuesday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports) to force a Game 7 at home Thursday.
Otherwise, their promise to Kaling would have to wait until the 2016-17 season.
If the Penguins force Game 7 and Kaling attends the game, she would follow WWE legend Shawn Michaels, who made the trip to Game 5 on Sunday courtesy of the Penguins after interacting with them on social media last week.
Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Gerrit Cole and retired Pittsburgh Steelers Pro Bowl defensive lineman Brett Keisel are among other standout celebrities who have attended Penguins games during the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Actor Russell Crowe has also voiced his support of Pittsburgh's playoff run on Twitter.
