Trent Vogelhuber scored the go-ahead goal at 5:39 of the third period, and the Lake Erie Monsters defeated the Hershey Bears 4-1 in Game 1 of the Calder Cup Finals at Giant Center in Hershey on Wednesday.
Vogelhuber's goal gave the Monsters, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets, a 2-1 lead. Daniel Zaar made it 3-1 when he scored his second goal of the game at 13:33, and Markus Hannikainen gave Lake Erie a three-goal lead at 15:09.

Jakub Vrana gave Hershey, the AHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals, a 1-0 lead when he beat Anton Forsberg at 15:42 of the first period. Zaar scored on a breakaway at 7:48 of the second period to tie the game 1-1.
Forsberg finished with 27 saves. Hershey's Justin Peters made 22 saves.
Game 2 is Friday in Hershey.
