Marchessault does 'hot lap' for Golden Knights prior to Game 3 of Final

WASHINGTON --Jonathan Marchessault has copied the Washington Capitals' tradition of doing the "hot lap" to kick off practices and/or morning skates on the road, and he's hoping it will bring luck to the Vegas Golden Knights.
The 27-year-old Vegas forward did his slower and more stiff-legged version of the hot lap, a full solo lap around the rink, before its morning skate at Capital One Arena on Saturday, where they will play Washington in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, SN, TVAS).

The best-of-7 series is tied 1-1.

Marchessault, who doesn't skate at full speed around the rink, said he first discovered the hot lap after learning that Washington captain Alex Ovechkin did it prior to a 6-2 win in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Final at the Tampa Bay Lightning on May 13, the day after Vegas lost Game 1 of the Western Conference Final at the Winnipeg Jets, 4-2.
"And the next day I did it in Winnipeg, Game 2," Marchessault said.
The Golden Knights won 3-1 in Game 2, so he did it again before Game 5 at Winnipeg. Vegas won that game 2-1 to win the Western Conference.
Game 3 here is Vegas' first road game since then.

"Guys like it," Marchessault said. "So we'll keep it going on the road."
Ovechkin did the hot lap before Game 5 at Tampa Bay, but the Capitals lost 3-2, so the honor went to coach Barry Trotz before Game 7.
Washington won 4-0 after Trotz did the hot lap at the morning skate, leading to a viral video. Trotz did it before Game 1 at Vegas, but the Capitals lost 6-4, which meant a new hot lapper had to emerge for Game 2.
It was center Lars Eller. Because Washington won, Eller likely will do it before Game 5 at T-Mobile Arena on Thursday.
