Siegenthaler NJD

Jonas Siegenthaler signed a five-year, $17 million contract extension with the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. It has an average annual value of $3.4 million and begins in 2023-24.

The 25-year-old defenseman could have been a restricted free agent after this season. He had NHL career highs with 13 assists and 14 points in 70 games last season.
Siegenthaler was traded to the Devils by the Washington Capitals on April 11, 2021 for a conditional third-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. He signed a two-year, $2.5 million contract ($1.125 AAV) with New Jersey on July 9, 2021.
A second-round pick (No. 57) by the Capitals in the 2015 NHL Draft, Siegenthaler has 27 points (three goals, 24 assists) in 175 regular-season games and no points in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
The Devils (27-46-9) were seventh in the Metropolitan Division last season and have not made the playoffs since 2017-18. They added depth at defenseman by signing Brendan Smith to a two-year contract July 13 and selecting Simon Nemec with the No. 2 pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.
