Jets fly to Calgary for first road preseason game

WINNIPEG - It may only be preseason, but Andrew Copp is already seeing results from his hard work in the offseason.
In both the games Copp has played, he's led the team in faceoff percentage, winning over 70 percent of his draws in each of those games. He has an opportunity to post similar numbers tonight when the Winnipeg Jets (2-1-0) hit the road to face the Calgary Flames.
"It's something I take a lot of pride in and something I didn't do a good enough job in last year," said Copp. "I'm really trying to bear down and win as many draws as I can and keep getting that percentage higher."

The 22-year-old said he used a mixture of video work and old-fashioned repetition to increase his proficiency at the dot.
"You watch video on yourself and see if you're getting off balance here or there, and you do videos on your opponents, so you know what to expect and what they're trying to do," Copp said. "You're doing a lot of live reps out there with guys doing different things and what not. You learn how to counteract what they're trying to do, and hopefully as a team we can build our faceoff repertoire."

It's all in an effort to constantly improve. Josh Morrissey has a similar approach. His aim is to "get better every game" this preseason. The defenceman has played in every one of Winnipeg's preseason contests, and that won't change tonight.
"In preseason you want to show everything you can, and do everything you can to stand out," said Morrissey. "But in some ways it's almost better, in talking with (Charlie Huddy) especially, to just build a game. Play simple, make the easy play, and I think that's what I've been doing."
There are only two players that have played in every Jets preseason game: Morrissey and Brandon Tanev. That kind of opportunity from the coaching staff is one that gives Morrissey a lot of confidence.

"Playing that year of pro (last year) and having a long off season to train, I know I'm in the best shape I've ever been, gives me that confidence as well," he said. "It's a great opportunity that I'm getting right now and I just want to make the most of it."
Morrissey, who hails from Calgary, AB, found out he was going to be in the line-up yesterday afternoon. With the short notice he was able to secure a few tickets for family members.
"It's my first time wearing a Jets jersey in the Saddledome," he said with a smile. "That's going to be pretty cool."
