CGY@PIT: Sportsnet shows "Hrudey on Duty"

When you hear that kind of "Oh no," something bad is about to happen. In this case, it was so bad, it was amazing.

The Pittsburgh Penguins hosted the Calgary Flames on '90s Night Thursday, and not to be left out of the fun were Sportsnet broadcasters Rick Ball and former NHL goalie Kelly Hrudey. The crew hit Hrudey with a sneak attack, telling him they were going to talk about Flames goalie Jacob Markstrom, then showed an old music video for "Hrudey on Duty."
The song, performed by The Puck Boys, was on theme for the special night, and Hrudey didn't stop laughing through the whole segment, saying the only thing preventing everyone from seeing him turn bright red was his TV makeup. Certainly showing a photo of a young Hrudey wearing his signature headband didn't help.
As Ball pointed out, the song was released in 1989, but he claims it didn't become an international hit until the 1990s, which meant it was a fair play for this occasion. Hrudey was traded to the Kings from the New York Islanders in 1989, and this song
did make it to local radio
shortly thereafter. No one should be arguing technicalities, anyway, if we get to feast our eyes and ears on the most '90s video ever. Power suits, mullets, muscle shirts, rap-rock, it's all there.
And for reference, here's the whole video, which should be seen in all its glory.
