Center David Legwand, who played 16 seasons and was the first player selected in Nashville Predators history, retired on Thursday.

Legwand was the No. 2 pick in the 1998 NHL Draft and spent parts of 14 seasons with Nashville where he had 210 goals and 356 assists (566 points) in 956 games.
The 36-year-old scored on a penalty shot in overtime to give the Predators a 3-2 win against the New York Rangers on Dec. 23, 2000, the first overtime penalty shot goal in NHL history.
Legwand last played in the NHL in 2015-16 when he had five goals and nine assists in 79 games with the Buffalo Sabres.
He also played for the Detroit Red Wings and Ottawa Senators and finished his NHL career with 228 goals and 390 assists (618 points) in 1,136 NHL games from 1998-2016. Legwand had 13 goals and 15 assists (28 points) in 55 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
