Each week, Discover will feature a different youth coach as part of its Exceptional Community Coaches series. In continued support of local hockey communities, Discover is making a $2,000 donation to each of the Learn to Play programs this season. This week, a look at Columbus Blue Jackets representative Tera Zorn Kelner of the Blue Jackets Learn to Play program.

About the coach: Kelner, a Columbus, Ohio native, has been instrumental in the skating and hockey community in Ohio for 10-plus years. A certified US Figure Skating and USA Hockey coach, Kelner serves as the Learn To Skate Manager and has been with the OhioHealth Chiller Ice Rinks since 2013. She coaches skaters of all levels from first steps to beginner hockey, to power skating and triple jumps! She is a member of US Figure Skating, USA Hockey, The Professional Skaters Association and Positive Coaching Alliance, she also holds US Ice Rinks certificates in Programming, Marketing and Promotions.
About the program: The Columbus Blue Jackets Learn to Play program, in collaboration with the OhioHealth Chiller Ice Rinks, increased participation by 500% year over year reaching 2,400 kids. As result of the increased growth, Kelner has taken on additional Learn to Play responsibilities. Her enthusiasm for teaching skating and hockey has been inspirational not only to the program participants but also to the skating and hockey coaches resulting in a truly collaborative effort between figure skating and hockey instructors. Additionally, Kelner heads up hockey programing at the Chiller Ice Rink located in Springfield, Ohio and will lead efforts of expansion of the Blue Jackets Learn to Play program into southwest Ohio.
Donation meaning:The donation will be used to hire and train new skating and hockey instructors as the program continues to expand in the coming year.
