Daly

PITTSBURGH -- Trevor Daley won't rule himself out of playing in the Stanley Cup Final for the Pittsburgh Penguins against the San Jose Sharks, but that sounds like a coping mechanism because the odds of him being able to walk without the use of crutches before mid-June are slim.
Daley has a broken left ankle, an injury he sustained in the second period of Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning on May 20.

"I'm not going to rule myself out," Daley said during Media Day on Sunday. "There's no way. That's keeping me going. I'm enjoying this and I'm not going to rule myself out."
The irony here is that Daley was immediately ruled out by Penguins coach Mike Sullivan on the morning of Game 5 against the Lightning. Sullivan announced Daley's injury and said he is done for the season.

Daley said he was given a timetable of 4-8 weeks. Even if he hits the short end of that, four weeks from his injury would be June 17. Game 7, if necessary, would be June 15.
That's why Daley said the odds of him returning are "not very good," and that his injury is "bad enough to where I can't play."
He would not go further into detail about the nature of the injury, but he did discuss what it has been like for him to watch instead of participate.
"It's frustrating, but at the same time we're at this point in the season and it's exciting," Daley said. "Being around the rink [Saturday] with the guys, it was probably the most fun I think I have ever had at the rink. Even though I'm in my boot, the guys, the smiles they had and how excited they were for this opportunity, it was exciting."
Daley said the only thing he can do now is try to be positive about his recovery and be the Penguins' biggest cheerleader.
"I'm going to give myself a chance," he said. "Why not, right?"
