Jarret Stoll agrees to tryout with Blue Jackets

Jarret Stoll
agreed to a professional tryout contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.
"I trained this summer like I was going to training camp with a team, just to make sure that I was ready for when it happened," Stoll told The Columbus Dispatch. "... But it's up to me now to earn a spot and prove I deserve to be on the team. They've got some good young players. I have to beat out one, maybe two players on the roster if I'm going to make it, so there's a challenge there."

Stoll, 34, played last season with the New York Rangers before the Minnesota Wild claimed him off waivers on Dec. 15, 2015. He had four goals and nine points in 80 games.
Selected by the Calgary Flames with the No. 46 pick in the 2000 NHL Draft, Stoll was unable to agree to terms on a contract and re-entered the draft in 2002. He was then chosen by the Edmonton Oilers with the No. 36 pick.
Stoll has 144 goals and 388 points in 872 NHL games with the Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, Rangers and Wild. He won the Stanley Cup with the Kings in 2012 and 2014, and advanced to the Stanley Cup Final with the Oilers in 2006, where they lost to the Carolina Hurricanes.
"Jarret's been in the NHL a long time, he's won two Stanley Cups," Columbus general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said. "This gives him a chance to show us what kind of shape he's in, and it gives us a chance to see if he can help us."
