Reason for optimism: Since Svechnikov was chosen with the No. 2 pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, he ranks second among his draft class in points (264 in 347 games) behind Ottawa Senators forward Brady Tkachuk (275 points in 359 games). He has full-fledged breakout potential this season after recovering from a torn ACL that limited him to 64 games last season.

Carolina Hurricanes 2023-2024 Season Preview

NHL.com fantasy rank: 76

Reason for optimism: Necas led the Hurricanes in points last season, an NHL career-high 71 in 82 games (previous best was 41 points in 53 games in 2020-21). He has the potential to be a draft bargain this season if he maintains his momentum and plays in their solid top-six forward group.

NHL.com fantasy rank: 104

Reason for optimism: Andersen is tied with Igor Shesterkin of the New York Rangers for the second-best goals-against average among NHL goalies (2.29; minimum five games) the past two seasons combined, behind Linus Ullmark of the Boston Bruins (2.14).

NHL.com win projection: 32

NHL.com fantasy rank: 143

Reason for optimism: Kochetkov is 15-7-5 in his first 27 NHL games and had four shutouts in 24 games (23 starts) last season. He has a high individual ceiling behind a Carolina team that allowed the fewest shots on goal per game (26.0) and he should be prioritized in keeper and dynasty leagues.

NHL.com win projection: 27\*
