Capitals fans light up social media after OT win eliminates Penguins

Tonight, Washington Capitals fans are gonna party like it's 1998.

For the first time in two decades, the Capitals are moving on to the Eastern Conference Final.

Evgeny Kuznetsov's overtime goal in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Second Round against the Pittsburgh Penguins finally ended the drought and the team's players and fans were more than happy to get the monkey off their backs.
The Capitals also got an outpouring of love on Twitter.
The NBA's Washington Wizards congratulated the team on its breakthrough.

As did the Georgetown Hoyas, who also play some games at Capital One Arena.

Former baseball player and Washington Nationals broadcaster F.P. Santangelo was also pumped for the victory.

Capitals fans couldn't get enough. There was even some screaming.

Even the Mayor of Washington, Muriel Bowser, had to tweet out her excitement.
