Canucks start to sell, not done making moves

VANCOUVER-- The Vancouver Canucks have started selling ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline but may make more moves before it passes at 3 p.m. ET on March 1.
Vancouver traded forward Alexandre Burrows to the Ottawa Senators for forward prospect Jonathan Dahlen on Monday. The Canucks could also trade goaltender Ryan Miller, who like Burrows could have become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, and forward Jannik Hansen.

"We're not done for the day," general manager Jim Benning said after announcing the Burrows trade. "I've got a lot more calls to make today so we're going to make the calls and see where we end up and if deals make sense for us we are going to look at them hard and do them."
Hansen is in the third season of a four-year, $10 million contract with an average annual value of $2.5 million, according to CapFriendly.com. The Canucks might not want to risk exposing Hansen to the Vegas Golden Knights during the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft on June 21.
"I would say there is a lot of interest in Jannik," Benning said.
Hansen, 30, has a modified no-trade clause that requires him to submit a list of eight teams he would accept a trade to. He submitted his list last week but with some teams adding forwards in trades since then, Hansen would at least consider amending it.

"It depends where it is," Hansen said. "If [Benning] takes it that far there is probably something that he likes and he'd probably like to move me and then it's up to me, whereas if it's the other way around it's completely in his hands."
The market for Miller is smaller, especially after the Los Angeles Kings, who were on Miller's list of five teams, traded for goalie Ben Bishop from the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday.
"We've had some calls on Ryan," said Benning, adding he's also considered bringing Miller back as a free agent this summer. "I don't know how many other teams need good starting goalies."

Miller reiterated he drafted his five-team trade list in the summer, and it was "basically crafted to keep me near my family." His wife, actress Noureen DeWulf, is currently in Los Angeles with their son, Bodhi, who turns 2 years old in March.
"There's always the option of Jim coming to us and pleading his case," Miller said of trade options outside his approved list. "I'd listen and I think he knows that."
