Klefbom leads Edmonton defensemen and is fourth on the Oilers with 33 points (five goals, 28 assists). He has played all 59 games this season.
"He's certainly a big hole, he plays a lot or minutes," coach Dave Tippett said. "Just like the rest of our injuries right now, it's next man up, and we have some young defensemen who are looking for more opportunity and they're going to get some and we'll see how they do."
Klefbom had one assist and played 30:57 in a 4-3 overtime win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday, and is fifth in the NHL in average ice time at 25:36 per game.
Klefbom has 155 points (34 goals, 121 assists) in 375 games with the Oilers.
"He means so much to this team, each and every night he comes out and he makes an impact on this game," defenseman Darnell Nurse said. "So for us, we all need to pick up a little bit of his game and try to make up for the loss, especially for the last couple of weeks."
The Oilers are without forward Connor McDavid, who was injured Feb. 8 and is expected to be out another week with a quad injury. Forward James Neal (ankle) and defenseman Kris Russel (concussion) are on injured reserved, retroactive to Jan. 30.
"That's how the season goes, there are times in the year where everybody is a little shorthanded and you have to step up," Nurse said. "That's the position we're in, and good teams they find a way to do that. That's a challenge for us and we have to make the most of it."
Edmonton (32-21-6) is tied with the Vegas Golden Knights for first place in the Pacific Division. It hosts the Boston Bruins on Wednesday (8:30 p.m. ET; SN, TVAS, NESN, NHL.TV).
