Hedman's 3rd-period goal lifts Lightning to 3-2 win

TAMPA -- Victor Hedman broke a tie in the third period, and the Tampa Bay Lightning ended the Boston Bruins' six-game winning streak with 3-2 victory at Amalie Arena on Thursday.

Brayden Point had a goal and two assists, and Nikita Kucherov had three assists for the Lightning (31-15-1), who tied their record with an 11th straight home win. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 37 saves.
"It was a fast-paced game. It felt like kind of a playoff game," Tampa Bay forward Anthony Cirelli said. "Especially with the crowd getting into it. It was two good teams going at it, and we were lucky enough to come out on top."

Brad Marchand and Pavel Zacha scored, and Linus Ullmark made 32 saves for the Bruins (38-6-4), who had won seven in a row on the road.
"I thought [Ullmark] did great," Boston coach Jim Montgomery said. "I thought he made a lot of saves look easy. He was in such good position. Vasilevskiy played great too. He made a lot of high-quality saves. It was a playoff-type game."

BOS@TBL: Hedman buries a slap shot to take the lead

Hedman made it 3-2 at 13:19 with a one-timer from the left face-off circle after Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo accidentally knocked over Ullmark, leaving part of the net open. Hedman said he noticed the goalie was down.
"Yep, I sure did, I just didn't know who [made contact with him]," Hedman said. "I knew it if was our guy they would've blown the whistle. Very lucky."
With Ullmark pulled for the extra attacker, David Pastrnak had a chance to tie it with a one-timer from the left circle, but Lightning defenseman Mikhail Sergachev blocked the shot with four seconds left.
"These last two games have been tied well into the third period and we've been able to pull these out and close them out in the end," Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. "That's a good sign for us. We're digging deep when the game is on the line and it's getting late."

BOS@TBL: Kucherov snaps one in to take the lead

Brandon Hagel gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 10:42 of the first period after Kucherov found him open in front of the net.
Marchand tied it 1-1 at 16:58 of the second period with a wrist shot from the left circle to the far post off a pass by Connor Clifton.
"I just got on [the ice], so they were tired," Clifton said. "I heard 'March' scream for it, so get him the puck. It was back and forth all night. Obviously they're a really good team, and I'm sure we'll see them down the line."
The Lightning went back in front 2-1 at 58 seconds of the third when Kucherov's snap shot from the left circle deflected in off Point's skate.
"I think these last two games, things are going in the right direction," Cirelli said of Tampa Bay, which was coming off a 4-2 win against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday. "We're playing with more structure, kind of limiting our turnovers. When we're doing that, I think we'll be good."

Zacha tied it 2-2 at 2:24 from the right circle off a pass by David Krejci.
"The shift before [that] we got scored on, so I wanted to get it back very badly," Krejci said. "It was nice to get it back. We were trying to create some chances."
Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy appeared to injure his shoulder after crashing into the boards early in the third period, but he returned a few shifts later and Montgomery said he's fine.
"He's a warrior, glad he came back," Montgomery said. "I think that's the biggest positive of the game. He went hard into those boards and he's healthy, so that's good."
